Craft Bazaar and Raffle Baskets

We raised over $1,800 from all our baskets and the craft bazaar.
Thank you to all those who volunteered their time! We had amazing help from those getting this event organized and advertised, those making sure the gym was set up and cleaned up, parents and students selling raffle tickets and bake sale items, and those who brought in items for the bake sale and raffle baskets. Also a special thanks to all the band students who played on Saturday morning, you were the highlight of the bazaar! This was a promising event for us, and we hope to do this in the future.

River Bowl!

The River Bowl is the annual football game played between Shasta High School and crosstown rival, Enterprise. The annual game has been played for over 50 years with Enterprise holding a slight edge at 32 - 28 - 1. In 1993, the two coaches came up with the idea to name it after the Sacramento River, which flows through the middle of town, and allow the winning team to hold the coveted trophy for the entire year. Although coaches, players, teachers, and students have changed, the rivalry continues to be the highlight of the football season for both schools.

This year the River Bowl is Friday, October 26th at 7:30pm. This is an event for Advanced Band students. Students need to be at the band room at Shasta High School at 5:30pm to enjoy a tailgate barbeque with the high school band. Warm-ups will begin shortly after 6pm and you will march to the field with the high school band soon after. Students need to wear a black sweatshirt (band or plain), or another Sequoia sweatshirt or t-shirt. If you do not have one of these options, let Mrs. Wiseman know. If you are not able to attend, you must notify Mrs. Wiseman in advance. Students are asked to stay through half time so they can watch the field show performed by the Shasta High School Band. After half time the students are dismissed, and you may stay for the rest of the game or go home. The band takes a break during the 3rd quarter but returns to play in the 4th quarter, so students can stay and continue to play along with the band. Expect the game to be over somewhere around 10:00pm, afterwards the bands will walk back to the band room to be picked up.

Parents, you and any additional family members must each have a ticket to get into the River Bowl game! You are not allowed to follow the band and avoid buying a ticket. Tickets are $5.00 each, regardless if you are an adult, child or student with an ASB card.  It is advised that after you drop off your student for the tailgate barbeque, you head to the football field to purchase your tickets and find a place to sit. Typically the Shasta High parents sit in the section to the left <as you are facing the field> of the Blast Zone. The Blast Zone is in the mid-section of the bleachers and is reserved for the band during Varsity games. The River Bowl is a popular game and seats will fill up quickly, and the line for tickets will be long if you wait to purchase them too close to game time. There are also pre-sale tickets available for purchase from the main office at Shasta High School, they go on sale this Thursday, October 18th and will be on sale through Friday, October 26th at 3:30pm. There are a limited amount of pre-sale tickets available, so buy yours right away if you're interested.

Uniform Fitting and Alterations

It is time to outfit our marching band!  We will start with 0 period Advanced Band members since they will be marching in the first parade in November.

Help is needed in 2 areas:
  1. In the band room from 8:00am-9:15am to fit the students.
  2. At home, hemming (temporary, quick stitches) and pressing the uniform pants.
No experience is needed!!!  We happily train and it is not difficult.

Reminders

Here are some reminders of upcoming dates so that you have plenty of time to plan.
  • Performance with the Shasta High Band:
    • Friday, October 26th at Thompson Field at Shasta High School. This is the only game we play this year with Shasta, and it is the River Bowl. We will meet at the band room at Shasta at 5:30pm for a tailgate barbeque before the game. We will play along with the band for the first two quarters, then we will enjoy the field show the Shasta High Band performs at half time. You may leave after half time, or you are welcome to stay through the rest of the game.
  • Veterans Day Parade:
    • Saturday, November 10th in Shasta Lake City. The parade route takes us straight down Shasta Dam Boulevard. We meet in the Sentry Market parking lot and walk a few blocks over to our section to line up for the parade.
  • Redding Lighted Christmas Parade:
    • Saturday, December 1st in downtown Redding. The theme this year is Redding's Night of Twinkling Lights. We usually light up each student with lights that the band provides, and then you may purchase lights for each student to light up their instrument. If you have any ideas about what we can do to really make a splash, please let Mrs. Wiseman know.
  • Holiday Bazaar:
    •  Saturday, December 8th at Sequoia. This will be a public fundraiser for the band. Space will be available for vendors to rent and sell their goods (more to come on that very soon!). We will be selling concessions as well as raffle tickets for baskets. The band will be responsible for assembling the baskets with each section of the band taking on a different category, so look for a Sign-Up Genius to come out for you to sign up! We would like local businesses to get involved and donate gift cards or items for baskets, so feel free to ask as the more items we have available, the more money can towards the band.
  • Winter Concert:
    • Thursday, December 13th at McLaughlin Auditorium. We will wear our normal concert attire of white shirts (no t-shirts), black pants/skirts and black socks and shoes (marching shoes are okay to wear).

If you have not yet ordered your shoes, please go to www.bandshoppe.com. Type in Product #6000, which is the Directors Showcase Showstopper Marching Band Shoes. We wear the plain black shoes as shown here. They tend to be true to size. Once you buy a pair, our lending closet is always available for you to trade up as the shoe size changes, although we do not have many in the larger sizes, 12 and up.

We are still doing eScrip to support the band. This is an easy way to have money go directly to the band. Go to www.escrip.com and sign up, the band ID# is 158730018. On the site you can find a list of companies that give a portion of your purchases to the band, just for buying at their stores and restaurants, or when you use or credit or debit cards. There is also on Online Mall with over 700 merchants that will donate a portion of your online purchases as well. Thanks so much for supporting the band in this way.

That is all for now, hope you have been enjoying your weekend!
